What if I don’t do well?

If you unfortunately bomb the interview and fail to get a course offer, you need to take some time to decide whether you really want to study medicine or dentistry. If you’ve thought it through and you’re sure that medicine or dentistry is the course for you, then you can reapply through one of the following pathways:

  • Take a gap year and reapply next year as a school leaver (if you have a very high ATAR); or
  • Start a university degree and reapply via an undergraduate pathway (only possible at some universities); or
  • Complete a university degree and reapply for a postgraduate pathway (only possible at some universities).
(Check out this article for more information on pathways.)

Also bear in mind that if you decide to reapply, you’ll most likely need to face the interview again—so to avoid falling at the same hurdle, make sure you learn from the mistakes you made this time and don’t repeat them!
