How do you decide what area of medicine/dentistry you want to specialise in?

For almost 100% of the students we’ve worked with who successfully gained entry, the speciality they thought they would do in their first year was not the one they actually ended up doing.

This happens because you find out so much more as you go through medicine or dentistry, and because actually working in a particular area is very different from just studying it. (It’s also because your priorities and way of life are also likely to change a lot as you grow older.)

So you really don’t need to rush to decide on this now. As you progress along your medical or dental journey, your studies and the experiences you have will naturally help you to realise which area you want to specialise in.
